The implementation of the Readiness Action Plan (RAP), the 2015 Political Guidance paper and the roadmap to next year’s Warsaw Summit are among the themes discussed at the NATO Defence Ministerial, attended today by Minister Pinotti.

Minister Pinotti underlined the importance of the critical situation connected with threats coming from the southern flank of the Alliance, and the need to pay the same level of attention to NATO three Core Tasks: Collective Defence,  Crisis management and Security Cooperation.

Furthermore, according to Pinotti, the link between NATO and the European Union must become more incisive, being it the fundamental premise for effective cooperation in terms of international defence and security.

Before the meeting, Minister Pinotti met with U.S. Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter. During the long, fruitful meeting, after highlighting the value of friendship between the two countries, Secretary Carter thanked Italy for its commitment on the international scenario, from Afghanistan to the Coalition to Counter ISIL. The theme of security in the Mediterranean, with special regard to the Libyan crisis, was also discussed.
