On 23 and 24 January Ambassador Bisogniero, together with the North Atlantic Council and the NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, paid a visit to Kuwait for the inauguration ceremony of the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative Regional Center. The ICI is the partnership which has been gathering, since 2004, NATO and Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar.
The mission underlined the key and visible attention paid to the country and the whole region, and confirmed – in terms of political dialogue and communication – the relaunching of NATO’s interest in the region, announced at the Warsaw Summit, also in light of an approach based on stability projection and comprehensive response to common threats to security and stability.
During the formal session, following the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Bisogniero, on behalf of Italy, which is the NATO Contact Point in Kuwait, highlighted the progress made by the existing cooperation with NATO, and valued the role played by Kuwait at regional level.
Against this background, he announced that Italy is willing to actively participate in the works of the Center.
Furthermore, the Ambassador highlighted the possible synergies between the Centre in Kuwait and the NATO Defense College in Rome, and with the Joint Force Command in Naples, as well as the potential of the Centre for developing new fruitful forms of collaboration in the fields of cyber, maritime, Science for Peace, situational awareness, thus contributing to the long-term stability of the region, as underlined by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg.
